In the spirit of keeping myself honest ... I thought I'd report on my first week of trying to do something active every day.

From the department of starting small, I just did 10 minutes each of the first four days, alternating between a 10 minute walk, and a 10 minute walk/jog/otherstuff routine. Also my Dad made me mow the lawn Saturday so there was that extra fun.

All of which went fine, although I discovered (I was not surprised) that I am so woefully out of shape that jumping jacks are HARD.

Monday when I planned to up my daily time to 15 minutes, I was back and forth across campus a couple times for the inservice thing, and I wasn't feeling too well so I let that extra walking count for my daily doing something.

Tuesday I still wasn't feeling well, so I did my 15 minutes on the treadmill at its lowest speed, 1.5 mph.

Last night I tried something different. I have an ancient stationary bike that my dad got me a couple years ago on riff raff night, and so I pulled up some virtual bike rides on youtube, and did a 10 minute ride through the English countryside.

Hoping to get back to my walk/jog/jump routine tonight depending on how spry I feel (via headache and work stressors). It's been thunder and lightning stormy the last couple of nights so I've wanted to get back outside for a walk but I made do on the treadmill and bike in the garage! So maybe I'll just end up taking a walk tonight if the weather cooperates. We'll see.

So YAY for doing something every day. I know me. If I miss even one day then I will use that as a precedent and just stop doing things. So I am trying to keep on keeping on. I need to sit down in the next couple days and plan out what my goals are for every day next week. At this point the goal is more to set the habit rather than focusing on accomplishing miles/minutes/etc. so I might do another week of 15 minute days and see how that feels.

ONWARDS!

I am the queeeen of virtual bike rides!!!!!!!

Soon as I can I will send you some videos! My sister is a hard-core bike rider like this, with the videos, and now that the daughter is moved out I am getting my bike set up to do the same.

You know, I seriously need to join you on this quest of yours. SERIOUSLY. I have the treadmill, I have the bike....

I try and fail at stuff like this all the time ... but hey ... try and fail better, right? But so far so good, 7 days in.

In the short term, I'm just trying to do a little something every day and get myself in better shape. then long term maybe try and get back to the c25k thing in the new year if I've gotten that far.

we'll see. really really trying to take things one day at a time and come up with things which are either fun/ or at least not very boring. treadmill is deadly boring for me, which is why I like the walk some, run some, jump up and down some, walk some more 10 minute thing I found.

so come on and join in if you want/can :))

You're SO right about the habit thing; I fall out of stuff like this all the time because I haven't made it a habit or a priority in my day. I tend to not want to start small and then hurt myself by doing too much and stop or not think it's worth doing if I can't put in an entire 1/2 hr, so I don't, and then I stop. *sigh* My cardio doc said that 30 min a day can be done in 10 min intervals, it's okay to do it that way--I had no idea, I thought sustaining activity for a full 30 min was important. This gives me less of an excuse not to do it. So if I work 10 min of activity into my day and make that a habit, then I've got a place to start from and a daily habit and all of that. And I'm on vacation next week, so. *girds loins* Even if I just stand and wiggle in place for 10 min, that's 10 min on my feet I wouldn't have done, and I've successfully worked it into my day, right? I've made the time, and that can become a habit if I do it enough times. Yes. *determined*

!0 minutes is a great start - and you are right that it's more important to do something every day than to try to do a lot and then quit (GPOY).

And it just occurred to me that I never sent you the extra pedometer. I got as far as replacing the battery and then...yep, there it is on - sitting on my dresser. facepalm. I will get it off to you next week.

yeah, I think I'll repeat the 15 minutes a day (or alternate 15 walk, 10 mins other) next week and just keep on doing a little bit and see how that goes. slow and steady!

no worries, pedometer wise. it came up just as teen drama was taking over your life. that's allowed. :)))

Outstanding! You are doing so much better than I am. Once I went back to school on Tuesday, I have just been collapsing at home at the end of the day. But you're inspiring me - I'm getting back on that treadmill today.
