Nov. 2nd, 2011 03:53 pmwell last night's combined tech/dress rehearsal was a right clusterfuck.
the problem with stage managing and being in the show ... you are always pulled in two directions at once. Add in that I'm helping do costumes, and doing most of the props. so things just got REALLY complicated and I couldn't keep my eye on everything, so nothing seemed to go right.
admittedly it was our first night in the performance space, our first rehearsal in costume and so there was a good expectation that everything was going to go to hell.
the plan was to do a cue to cue first, and then run the show ... but when the press from the local public radio station showed up and wanted to record some of what we were doing for a story she's doing on the show, everything went arse over teakettle and we plunged right into a run.
I hate feeling like the cast feels like we don't know what we're doing. we do, but we're stretched thin, and this is a brand new piece and so by its nature its going to be in flux up until the end as we try and massage it into a dramatic structure. really interesting to think about how to turn a collection of poems into a "play" or a performance piece.
but so tired of getting home at midnight and still having many things to do.
ended up calling in sick for half a day this morning ... woke up with a giant headache from going hours last night with no liquid -- and stress :) hated to do it but that three hour nap I got in ... in between trying to keep Jinx from climbing up the curtains in my bedroom ... helped so much. I was pretty much at the end of my rope last night.
just keep chanting .... only three more days .... only three more days ....
and really, if you don't look too closely at them, the dresses are lovely, and the poems are wonderful. and we're sold out for Friday night, so its not all bad. :)
so, preview tonight with an invited audience. keep your fingers crossed it goes smoothly!!!!!!!
