bluecastleNew glasses have been ordered. It's only money, right? Actually I never did even ask how much the frames were going to be. When your lenses are $500 however many hundreds the frames are seems almost like chump change.
But they were super nice. Doc was running late with a patient so picked frames while I waited for her to finish. Super service from what I gather is the Doc's husband. I had to love him when he came back with my current glasses that they'd taken off to check the prescription and he waved his arms with big sweeping motions. As I was pretty much blind at that point I appreciated the effort. We looked at some trendy stuff, and some more timeless stuff. Hopefully I'll like the ones I ended up with. Was seduced for a while with a pair of pink and brown plastic frames, but ended up with squarish metal frames with blue side pieces.
When you can only see 6 inches in front of your face, picking frames is something of a shot in the dark. You stick your nose up against the mirrors and hope for the best!
But they clearly knew what they were doing, and even though they initially tried to get me to pop for the $800 lenses, when we looked at the fact that I'll probably need new glasses in two years or so (omg did they say BIFOCALS soonish? eek :) they backed off to the slightly less expensive lenses.
Was happy they didn't stick drops in and dilate my pupils making it really hard to see anything! Eye doc said my eyes were beautiful and healthy, just super nearsighted. She was oddly comforting for someone who sounded like she was 4 years old. The vocal tone was very nearly patronizing and over-cute, but somehow it also managed to me kind of soothing and ego boosting in some strange way.
So they'll text me (!) whenever my glasses are done, and there'll be another little trip to downtown Uni town, and then the first new glasses I've had, maybe in ... a decade? Exciting. Even if EXPENSIVE. Oh, BUT if I put their sticker on the back of my car, and take a picture of it, they'll knock off 5% for free advertising. :)
