my writing year in review...
Jan. 8th, 2010 12:03 pmSort of wrapped up with my intent to work on a master fic list... I thought I'd start by looking back at 2009 and seeing what I churned out...
In January I wrote a little drabble, which still might be the best thing I've written to describe how I see Jack and Ianto's relationship. It's just a tiny little sliver of a thing, but somehow hits the tone I strive for but don't always arrive at:
Repair
In April ... I participated in my first (I think) challenge and wrote something for
dalekinthepond . It wanted to be about three stories, but I mashed it all up together. *shrugs* But it's Torchwood 1918 and Torchwood 2009 and a little Dalek named Beta|Apple.
In the Weeds
Also in April I churned out a little nonsense thing about Ianto pre Torchwood One. As I said in the intro, it was more an excuse to write the Junior Researcher want ad than anything else...
Wanted
May brought the piece of writing that got a zillion comments... and it sort of wrote itself... but it was another attempt to capture something about the relationship between Jack and Ianto. It's a domestic, with a domestic (as it were) and gave me the chance to create that little laundry room I just know is/was in the Hub someplace.
The Spaces Between
and on June 9th I wrote a post CoE drabble for tw100 which at that point was all the post CoE I could do while being wrapped up stage managing 'the play about death' [The Emily Dickinson biopiece].
and a Frobisher drabble
In August I started to try and challenge myself to a drabble a day... but crapped out after only a couple of days...ending with this one:
No, Jack.
Ianto. You know you want to.
Might.
So…
Still. Not. Happening.
Why not?
Not a child.
Never said you were.
You are.
Never said I wasn’t. Your point?
Do I have to have one?
Yes.
Why.
Because.
Child.
Magician.
Not hardly.
Could be.
How.
Secret.
Child.
Spoilsport.
Why should I?
It’d be nice. Say you will.
What’s in it for me?
You know.
Aside from that.
Don’t think. Just say yes.
I like to look before I leap.
It’d be a shame to miss it.
Would at that.
So is that a yes?
It’s not a no.
Yes!
In August I posted The Noiseless Tune to Which We Tread ... my first fic that I had beta'd... by the inestimable
neifile7 and
amand_r rockstars both.
I'm still trying to figure out just what made that piece resonate so much with people.
kel_reiley rec'd this on Torchwood_House in December which have me a terrific early Christmas present. The one thing that give me hope that I don't suck too bad, is that my stories while small in number, and in scope and size, do seem to garner positive responses. So I might be on the right path afterall...
December brought the posting of my reel_torchwood fic The Flat. My take on the 1960 hit The Apartment.
And as my final bid to writing in 2009 I banged out a Yuletide Dragonriders of Pern fic called Crash Landings.
Not too shabby a representation for someone who doesn't even really consider herself an accomplished writer most of the time.
I'll be interested to see what 2010 brings...
If I missed anything... or missed thanking anyone, it's probably cause lj kept eating this ... something about not liking the ljcomms links. anyway... all y'all helped make this my most productive writing year yet. Pat yourselves on your respective back!
