* Occasionally I am reminded how great the gulf is between me and my co-workers, as was the case this morning when I overheard the following exchange from the office across the hall:

co-worker #1: How do you spell gnomes, as in like for the garden?

co-worker #2: K-N-O-M-E-S? Is that it?

I can’t make this shit up. (These same co-workers recently had a discussion about how to pronounce “pedagogy” … Coworker #2 was astonished it wasn’t “ped-a-goggy".”)

* Sort of thankfully, I get to escape the office tomorrow as I have signed up for a one day, ‘listen to four learned people talk about stuff’ seminar at the campuses student union. As long as the speakers are interesting it ought to be an interesting day spent discussing the right to information access.

Also, it will look well on my yearly evaluation next spring. We have to account for all the personal development stuff, so there’s a point there to be gained at the very least.

* Might have signed myself into the looney bin last night by signing up for NaNoWriMo. I don’t think I can do the suggested word count, but am challenging myself to 1,000 words a day. I still have no clue where the story is supposed to go, but I have a handful of characters who won’t leave me alone. So if I can crank out 30,000 words, I’ll have  better idea of whether this vague idea for a story has any merit. Haven’t dug around for any buddies… but I’m over there as “blue castle” FWIW.

No, it's peT-a-Doggy. Geez! :D

What is the suggested word count for NaNo? I'm totally scared of signing up for that.

nice doggy *gigglesnort*

to "win" at NaNo you have to crank out 50,000 words during the month. It's really only 1667 words a day, but 50,000 sounds way to skeery!!

I sort of expect to fail, but if I can write every day, that will be something of a miracle :D

Wow. That's a lot of words. I can do that on any given day, but other days, I got nothin'.

I owe omnijaxual a fic, TW Big Bang some art and a movie crossover has to be written. If I commit to anything else, my head will pop off.

me too! But, the 50 or what thousand words don't, imo, have to be from one fic. I don't care about 'winning' their little halo, just writing and meeting other writers!

Oh, totally. If I can shoot for 1,000 words a day every day for a month, I'll consider the whole thing a huge success. 'Cause I know I should write every day, and just don't.

(and no doubt when I'm sick of the original thing, I'll bang out the reel-tw thing. Which I should outline sometime actually. maybe during the conference lunch break tomorrow)...

I'm only doing half, Foxy. No way can my goofy hands take 50k in one month. I'd end up back in arm braces again and that cramps my style.

BLUE CASTLE I will add you. Cparagraphs here.

Good luck for NaNo. I'm just in awe of anyone that can crank out more then ten words a day like me. XD

Co-workers like that are what make work fun. Until you have to work with them. Then it's just insane. I have no idea where/ what you work as, but unless it's a garden centre, I'd be worried about their need for gnomes...
