I “love” how expert TLC is at cross-pollinating their own shows. The latest example of which was sending the Duggar Family to that wedding dress shop from that other TLC show I can’t remember the name of so that Michelle could pick out a dress for the renewal of her vowels. It was uncomfortable enough with Michelle’s modesty, and all those kids rolling all over the reception room floor, and Jim Bob trying to give fashion advice. But the snarky thought that kept going through my head was … the last person from another show on TLC they sent to get a vow renewal wedding dress was Kate before she and Jon and the kids went off to Hawaii to renew their vows. And how long after that was it that they split up? I’m just saying!
I’ve now finished watching season one of Robin Hood. I don’t know that I need to watch the other seasons, but there is a sort of goofy appeal to it all. I love seeing the _interesting_ adaptations of costumes … and the actors do get occasionally really nice character moments. And of course the guy playing the Sherriff is a complete wackadoodle. If ever a character was invented for slash hate!sex… there you go. Any villain who ends up at the end of the season with painted toe nails and a fake tooth with a ruby glued to it is worth watching for sheer entertainment value. Oh, and extra bonus points for adding Anjali Jay to the cast. Giving Robin Hood a Muslim girl in his merry band was a really interesting choice.
Still trying to catch the back catalog of Criminal Minds episodes. Saw the first two (or was it three) episodes that introduce Joe Mantegna’s character last night. It’s always tricky to try and replace cast members. They were a bit heavy handed with the whole unsolved mystery backstory thing, but I like the old ways vs. new ways conflict as a way to jazz things up a bit.
More importantly who was that BASTARD that shot my PENELOPE … and how soon can the team pound on him for me?????? I just might have a bit of girl crush on Garcia. I heart her.
Also, the closing shot of Rossi in the doorway of this office in the shadows was a beautiful thing. American TV has a long way to go before they can approach the visual profundity of, say, something like the British Wallander series which is as deft visually as it is verbally.
Off now to work on processing dvds about feminism, polio, and community gardens…
