Sep. 16th, 2009 12:54 pmHave manged to slip away for my lunch break, and am eating the other half of my fund-raiser hoagie from yesterday. What I really want is a strong cup of coffee and a really great rich dense chocolatey brownie . Ah well.
Its nice to get a little time away from the techs that have been helping me man the table. I appreciate their time ... but I wish they didn't BITCH quite so much. It's like someone put it on their job description and now they feel they HAVE to do it. I'm not always the most positive person, I know... but come on guys... this event does not exist to make your lives difficult. Get over yourselves!
Was so exhausted last night I laid around watching NCIS (and hey, got reminded that Tony says he gets drunk and Twitters!), and Warehouse 13, and then Chopped on the food channel. Up close and personal with cockles and goji berries. LOVE.
Then I had a little pity party and nearly cried myself to sleep. I hate being so tired that it breaks down all my defenses.
While the second day of this Open House always feels a bit mellower, at least it's a bit more entertaining as the university gaming commons is set up across from us. Yesterday was the Wii demo. Today they've got Beatles Rock Band going. And we hear later in the day that the university mascot will be paying us a visit. There is usually major squeeagh over that. I don't get the excitement over a kid in a fur suit, but whatever...
These events are so odd for me, because although I've worked for this library for about 16 years, I haven't worked AT the library in the last 12 or so years. I'm the only one in my department who started out working at the library. So in a strange way, I feel like all of my colleagues are back here in the mothership. Every time I am over here for a meeting or whatever there are always people saying HI and chatting with me, but they're not the people I work with everyday. It's a very odd dichotomy. Also, I end up being the middleman a lot since often I am the only one who know who to translate between the two departments. A lot of that works in my favor, but it's not always the most comforable place to be.
One of my goals is to get back here and work at the mothership ... but budgets are SO tight right now that almost no one is hiring.
So I guess the theme for today should be "keep on keeping on..."
Off to rehearsal after we wrap up here tonight. Short piece called "When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet" which gets a bunch of the heroines together to give Juliet romance advice about this new guy, Romeo. I think we just lost our Juliet, so not sure what casting shifts will have to go on. My guess is Ophelia will move up to Juliet, and we'll find someone else to play crazy. Updates at eleven.
