i am what i am.
Aug. 14th, 2009 11:22 amI sort of put it together some time recently that if there is one thing that symbolizes me, it's a crazy quilt... and not just for the obvious joke.
I make stuff. And I realized when I was working on my latest piece of fic that I do the same thing when writing as I do when crafting ... take tiny bits of stuff, and stick 'em together and make something new, something that's bigger than the bits that make it up. Maybe it's why I have trouble with plotty fic. Maybe it's too big. Or I haven't learned to break it down into its parts yet or something.
When I make my collage cards, I sit in my studio surrounded by crap, and put stuff together in (hopefully) interesting ways. So much of that seems instinctual to me. I always have a hard time saying good things about myself, but one of the few things I will admit to doing well, is being able to mix pattern and texture and make something harmonious.
There's a lot of fun in piling up a bunch of random fabrics and making something whole out of chaos.
I haven't gotten this one up in my shop yet, but here's a simple card, made out of a 4x6 card, some hand dyed paper towels, a bit of lace, and some fun ribbon (which was either thrifted or from the trim place's tent sale grab bag), and a blank card.

Making stuff is fun, right?
