So as I was angrily staring at my computer for the five hours it took to download Day Four (gggrrr.... grrrrr.... my cat gave me up at some point and spent most of the time hiding in the garage) the word of the day was

perseverance.

yeah.

and this morning, when I have to go to work so I can sneak out of work to go over to the second preview for the "emily" piece I see today's word(s) of the day. I'm including the etymology and the usage here only as they're sort of appropriate in tangential ways...

Sturm und Drang

MEANING:
noun: Turmoil; upheaval.

ETYMOLOGY:
From German Sturm und Drang (translated as: storm and stress, literally: storm and urge/yearning), title of the 1776 play about the American Revolution, by dramatist Friedrich Maximilian von Klinger (1752-1831). It was also the name of an 18th century German literary movement characterized by greater expression of emotional unrest.
The name of the Durmstrang Institute, one of the wizarding schools in the Harry Potter series, is a spoonerism of Sturm und Drang.

USAGE:
"After the sturm und drang of Revolutionary Road, director Sam Mendes opted for a looser, lighter story."
Colin Covert; Pregnant Pause With 'Away We Go'; Star Tribune (Minneapolis, Minnesota); Jun 12, 2009.

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
In my youth I thought of writing a satire on mankind; but now in my age I think I should write an apology for them. -Horace Walpole, novelist and essayist (1717-1797)
