shouldn't need a nap first thing monday morning, but since I was a lazy puss yesterday and never folded the laundry that's heaped on my bed, I ended up sleeping on the couch, and that's never all that restful.

watched the season finale of Law and Order: Criminal Intent, which was pretty good, but I couldn't help wondering if this is going to be the series finale as well. There is supposed to be word soon about whether USA is picking CI up for a ninth season. I am actually of two minds about this. The writing this season has been sorta lousy, and the acting has suffered as consequence. There are brand new show runners, and they had issues leading to even newer show runners... and a new cast member in Jeff Goldblum (who's been fun to watch, I think I might have a teeny tiny crush) ... and a number of things that made this season an uphill battle. These final two episode Kathryn Erbe has taken over from Julianne Nicholson who's off on maternity leave, and the Nichols/Eames pairing has been sort of interesting. Whether it portends anything for the future, we'll just have to wait and see. But if its run its creative course, I would rather they let the series go rather than keep on making lousy TV.

given the inherent weirdness of going on a vacation with my mother, I am surprised to be super looking forward to our bus trip to Vermont at the end of the month. It's not even the destination ... cider mills and bear factories and ben and jerry's ice cream are all well enough in and of themselves, but they're not earth-shatteringly exciting. It's just the chance to travel I think. I love to do it, but between not having the money for much travel, and my mother freaking out if I leave the county unattended... travel is something I long for, but don't get to do. So Vermont, here we come!!

Ok, off to do work work and mull over my possible tweaks/re-writes for the story that's being beta'd.

Supposed to be in the 90s today here in Happy Valley. I will be hiding inside, thank you very much. I am ready for fall. Found myself looking for wool skirts in the Goodwill the other day. Yeesh.

ETA: just read THIS article about Netflix (the Chicago hub anyway) and while it's interesting, it's also a bit creepy...

While roaming around the internets... I came across a page of Santayana quotes, and I found myself thinking of Jack, that immortal time traveller. For anyone interested in writing future!Jack, or past!Jack, or anyold!Jack... I offer these up as sparks.

A man's memory may almost become the art of continually varying and misrepresenting his past, according to his interest in the present.

Each religion, by the help of more or less myth which it takes more or less seriously, proposes some method of fortifying the human soul and enabling it to make its peace with its destiny.

Friendship is constant in all other things Save in the office and affairs of love.

In endowing us with memory,
nature has revealed to us a truth utterly unimaginable to the unreflective creation, the truth of immortality....The most ideal human passion is love, which is also the most absolute and animal and one of the most ephemeral.
