before I go down and find out if the cafe has their usual Wednesday chicken pot pie "soup" special, there's time to send out some SQUEE over finally getting to see The Dark Knight Rises last night. Before I stick a bunch of random thoughts behind a cut for possible spoilers I just want to ask WHY ARE PEOPLE?
Specifically young, male, nitwits who spend the whole movie running in and out for soda refills, kick the seats in front of them, and spill soda on the people in those seats? UGH.
Interestingly they must not have been paying attention to the brand new "Please be kind and courteous" message they played before the movie.
Anyway, back to random squee...
you guys know how much I love sidekicks, right? so color me SUPER HAPPY with the ending. Also I have a certain fondness for Robin as an actual name, so...
I didn't expect to see Burn Gorman up there, so that was a lovely treat!
Loved my Tommy, and understood about 93% of what Bane said. I smiled at myself smiling at thinking "wow, he's an excellent crazypants dude." Then I kept having Tinker, Tailor flashbacks between Tommy and Gary Oldman.
On some level I kept a running commentary in my head as the movie was going on of all the fic I'd like to see generated from it. I want Selina and her crazypanties GF/BFF fic. I want ALL the Gotham is cut off from the world fic.
As a side note on this, when I was like 12 and being brutally bullied, I read a LOT of books about Holocaust, fiction and non-fiction. (With a subset of stories about the siege of Masada as thematically linked) It somehow made me feel better to know that I wasn't the only person ever that was being persecuted. Anyway, so I've read a lot of stories about the Warsaw ghetto, and concentration camps, and Russian gulags, and underground movements and whatnot, and so all that Gotham = ghetto maybe resonated a different way for me that most people but I liked that part a lot. There was also just an echo of Doctor Zhivago in the bit where they went up to see the folks holed up at the top of Wayne Tower in the snow.
Alfred broke my heart.
I felt like there was some missing payoff scene to follow up on Bruce discovering that scar on Miranda's back.
Whose going to write that crossover fic where the whole thing is just the Inception team trying to Incept Bruce Wayne? LOL
Anyway, I've got lots of feels, and man I need to see that again. There was a really interesting debate on Clothes on Film about the ending bit with Alfred. I'm always glad when I've finally seen something so I can go back and read the commentary/criticisms. I try not to do that beforehand.
YAY FEELS!
