Feb. 14th, 2012 10:42 amOn my wrist, amongst all the other shiny things, is a bracelet stamped with the word "nourish."
It's my word of the year, picked because a) I need to eat better, but b) because I think there are other areas of my life that need to be nourished. Gives me a nudge to allow good things to come my way.
So in my lunch bag today are/were a yogurt "parfait" with blackberries and granola. (that's the were part, I already ate it! :) And for lunch, little containers of pretzels, cheese, carrots, grapes and hummus. Trying for healthy and balanced anyway. Realized that one day when I skipped lunch and was all shaky by 4pm, so went down to the cafe and got a cheese and apple snack pack. Prompted me to try and make my own snack packs!
Other nourishments ...
Took yesterday off (a nourishment in its own right I guess) to work the regional poetry recitation competition. Somewhat unfair that I couldn't sleep in on my day off, but it was a good way to spend a morning. We had 5 girls from 4 local school districts (the Uni-town school district sent a rep from both the normal HS and their special HS program for non-normal kids (in ALL ways)). Those two girls actually ended up placing 1st and 2nd. I get to be the, sort of floor manager, and their prompter. Glad not to have the pressure of being a performance judge or the accuracy judge!
[side note, one of the selected poems was a great one about tattoos that's going to spark/show up in an Inception fic at some point for sure!]
As I said on Twitter, I got great hugs from the big muscley tattooed sound guy. There was always some low-level all purpose flirting going on there back when I worked at the PAC. But man did it feel good to be wrapped up in a couple excellent hugs. I'm so touch starved most of the time, it's just amazing to get a great snuggle warm hug. :)
Then my pal CeeCee (who was running the event) took me and two of the other judges out to lunch. One of them is my friend who's full on working on getting her bookstore up and running. Exciting things and building permits are finally happening. Looking like the end of next month for the opening at this point, though.
Which is also sort of sad as it means she won't be around to be in the production that being planned for then in the same venue as the Vivaldi thing back in November. It's still coming together, but it's a new piece made up of improv bits, monologues, dialogue and some poems and songs about women and our rituals (set at a bridal shower ... with audience involvement :) Here's the fun part -- until/unless it changes, things tend to be in flux in the development stages -- CeeCee has me down to be the mother of the groom ... totally anal retentive and controlling, with a daughter (jr. bridesmaid) and a secret fabulous sex life. Acting challenges all (well maybe not the controlling part) :D
Oh ... and last night's Monday movie ended up being Albert Nobbs which you all must absolutely go and see. Fabulous acting, a really interesting look at sex and gender and all that with period clothes and Jonathan Rhys Meyers in a dress [actually there was some subtle m/m stuff going on there in the background which I found an interesting counterpoint class and status wise to the A story). The only thing is, while you can't deny that Glenn Close does a fabulous job being a man ... for me Janet McTeer stole the movie. I suspect some of that had to do with the divergent energies their characters had, but she just ... I dunno ... I couldn't take my eyes off her Hubert.
Anyway ... all kinds of good things going on ... and I'm trying to convince myself I'm my own best valentine (even bought myself a box of chocolates!). Yesterday had hugs, and poetry, and a free lunch, and donuts, and a movie which I laughed and cried during, so that should be celebrated!
Virtual hugs to anyone who needs or wants them!! I got plenty to spare today! <3 <3 <3

Date: 2012-02-14 09:58 pm (UTC)I'm not sure what I'd think of it if I came at it from a non-straight perspective. But for me it was much more about women, and power, and the time period than it was about sexual attraction, or sexuality or whatnot. And the acting. So much of what Glenn Close has to do with this character just shows up as a flick of an eyelid or the tiniest smile. And Janet's just amazing!!! And the minor characters mostly get JUST enough screentime to make them interesting in their own right.
And now I want to know if Glenn is really that tiny in real life :) "Mr Weasley" just towered over her :)
MORE HUGS :)
