Well, with any luck, the dark grey cardigan I ordered today will match the dark grey skirt I ordered last week in my attempt to pull together a decent-ish Hogwarts Hufflepuff uniform. Being not rich, and being not skinny have made this a challenge. The stuff that's the right shape/silhouette is outside my price range. It was fun looking at the Scottish site that makes and sells the sweaters they use in the movies. But they only go up to XL I think. And the "School Uniforms for Grownups" has the most amusing "will arrive in plain brown box" wording clearly aimed at the schoolgirl/boy fetishists. But again, out of my price range. Apparently no American woman of ample size wants a grey wool pleated skirt and matching sweater vest. LOLOL.
So I found a skirt that's roughly the right color, and today finally sourced a cardigan that's vaguely right. I still have to decide if I want to add the black/yellow banding on the cuffs and around the bottom. And if so how I'm going to do that. But we'll see once it arrives.
The tie and the badges -- ordered both the Hufflepuff one, and a general Hogwarts one as well -- are on their way.
Plan for robes is to find one of those black graduation gowns that always show up in the thrift stores around Halloween, add the aforementioned badges and call it good enough. Doubt I'll get around to putting in the yellow lining... and it won't have a hood (unless I'm very very lucky) but I figure for one day of the year it should be close enough.
Then I will amuse myself by wearing everything but the robes to work and see if anyone notices. :)))
Have recently found in my research that Tonks was a Hufflepuff. Should I add pink hair??? LOL
Anyway ... just trying to get through another Monday and am rather amused at myself for waiting this long to attempt Hogwarts costume.
Looking forward to a dinner out tonight for a former co-worker's birthday. Tomorrow night I have free and plan to cook up a giant vat of pasta. Then Wednesday we start rehearsals. Slightly terrifying that we only have 11 of them. But schedule goes crazy then, and I have laid in a lot of canned soups and things for quick and easy late night dinners.
Such is the state of my October so far.
