Jun. 3rd, 2011 12:41 pmWhile my baby quiche cools, I am back to pondering my first fandom.
Goren and Eames are back together again, solving crimes for an 8-episode 10th season after being let go/fired/quit at the end of season eight. Episodes have been really good, and while I was a bit skeptical about the enforced therapy sessions for Goren, they have been mostly short, well written (they brought back the season 5-6 showrunner Warren Leight, who also showran In Treatment, to write these scenes).
Now they're hyping up this Sunday's episode with clips of Goren's psychiatrist-- played so greatly by Julia Ormand -- asking him, about Eames "Do you love her?" and Goren flipping out and walking out of the session.
I'm going to guess that its a highly prejudicial editing of the session designed to make people tune in and it will turn out to be a lot less dramatic in the end. No surprise there re promo clips.
But what it has me thinking about is all those die-hard shippers. Were the writers to suddenly reveal that either Goren always loved Eames I'm sure the shippers would float away on some happy ship of squee. But what if, at the end of 10 years of happy fan shipping, it becomes canon that there IS no romance there. How do they fit that into their heads? Or do you just ignore it and write whatever you want? Both, I expect!!
Personally, I think its a much more interesting story, and a much more nuanced partnership if they love and respect one another without desiring each other sexually. But that's my head canon.
Guess I just have to tune in Sunday evening and see for myself!
