Super freaking busy here... but taking a short break to put up this post about the madness that is about to happen here at mah liberry...

It's OPEN HOUSE time... so I'll be offsite for the next two days. Last year I took my netbook Lola with me. This year I'll have my iTouch Janice to keep me company (and let me tweet stuff to blow off steam :)

We used to have more fun with these when there were themes (the pirate one was the most fun) but someone complained that we were not being suitably academic for an institution of higher learning (piffle!) So now we're all rah rah we love our school colors...

This will be my view for the next two days (pls excuse the blurry webcam/netbook picture)

and a few highlights from last year's Open House. I so forgot I wore a skirt!

YAHOO! See that giant flat screen there on the right. Yeah. Usually the Dance, Dance Revolution club takes that over and for two days we have to listen to the lovely selection of music and watch the kids (who are admittedly really good at it) stomp and jump. This gets EXTREMELY old after about the fifth straight hour...

Cool pics!

I am dreadful at DDR! I mean embarrassingly horrid. But it is still fun. And The Boy is up to speed on his bad '80s dance music.

Last year the computer/gaming people set up Rock Band in the opposite corner of the room. Which only got embarrassing when the school mascot showed up and suddenly everyone was falling over themselves to take a picture of said mascot on drums.

By the end of the first day of NOISE and TALK and CONSTANT SENSORY INPUT I want to retire to a monastery and never talk to anyone ever again. :D

Don't you just HATE when whiners spoil everyone else's fun? That truly sucks and is so evil and stupid. :*( Y'all should vote the Fun back in. Pretty library though! I liked Nashville's downtown library, which is right across from where my sister works. Sigh, I just plain liked Nashville (to my shock!).

DDR, I've never tried it. lol.

That would drive me NUTS and the high ceilings and hard surfaces has to make it worse.

BTW I can recommend a monastery if you ever truly want to take a break. I go every few years, either with Sib3 or on my own and it is transformative. It's in the middle of the Sante Fe National Forest at the end of forty miles of lousy road. Just getting there feels good. The silence and the work is better!

PIRATES! (somewhere there's an excellent picture of me in my cool pirate get up)

Now I just wear my library polo shirt and go with the flow.

The space where our table is is currently the main circulation area ... but with the impending renovations will become a study space atrium. It was once outside space that was enclosed in a previous renovation. And since it's all stone ... it echos like a mothereffing thing.

The public spaces are getting lovelier every day. The newly renovated reading room just opened today :) http://yfrog.com/ndc1kzj

libraries are cool :)

Yes, they are! I actually worked in one during college days, in the very laughable audio-visual department. I wonder what it is like there now. It was a fun job but for having to work Saturdays.
