You know... I kind of hate that I love so much of the stuff on the BBC ... because I hear my flisties talking about stuff I will have to wait AGES to see!

Being Human series two is just starting to be available on iTunes in conjunction with it airing on BBCAmerica. So I've pre-ordered all eight of those. I would rather not wait a week between getting them, but it will be like watching them on TV I guess :)

And I hear good things about this new Sherlock but god KNOWS when we might see that on this side of the Atlantic legally.

This is NOT an appeal for linkies. I know I've gotten my New Who series 5 on the DL... but as part of my day job is Video Copyright... I get a bit nervous about having that stuff around, even on my home computer.

It's just a vent about how I wish there was a way for the BBC to get this stuff to those of us overseas at more or less the same time as they can have it in the UK. Obviously the BBCA broadcast right get in the way, but for those of us w/o access to BBCA ...

It's a morning for frustrations around here... and this is just one of them.

My understanding is that Sherlock will be part of the Fall season of Masterpiece Theater on PBS. So, certainly a wait but it should be 2010 at least.

well that's something! I admit I haven't gone poking around for much info in an attempt to remain more or less unspoilered and to reduce the frustration about stuff I can't see yet :)

Yeah, agree. Technology isn't being used the way it could be.

For example, people who don't pay a license fee in the UK could pay a subscription to the BBC for access to content. I think that would be fair.

Yeah. I'd happily fork over a couple a bucks to the Beeb for x, y, or z so that I could see it in a timely fashion.

I'm certainly no expert on 'the ways things may be acquired from the wilds of the internet' ... but I could probably go out there and find stuff (and have from time to time) but I would prefer not to have to do it like some backroom internet transaction for illicit substances :)

it just seems like as fandoms become increasingly global ... there ought to be a way to make things like this work.

Yup, or since they already know how to tell if a visitor to the website is from out of the country, show us ads with the programs like other networks do.

Easy peasy!

honestly, we have the technology these days to have near-simulcast of television shows world-wide, the only thing that holds most of it up is usually copyrights - i know of a few british shows that took forever to come out on Region 1 DVD due to securing the copyrights for some music used in the show (b/c copyright laws are different in different countries and sometimes they have the rights ONLY in certain places)

I see this all the time in the day job where independent films and documentaries get held up in distribution to the home video market for AGES because they can't afford the music rights.

I sympathise. This is chief reason why we invested in a very expensive digital cable package when we had the chance. I might be overseas from the UK, but I get a good portion of the domestic BBC channels nonetheless. I don't think such an option is available for the US, but I do sympathise. I remember those dark, dark days...
