also, now I have to say "cock" in front of large groups of people!
of course I'm talking about a rooster ... but still.
it's a lovely piece all about how the only time I get any peace and time to myself is before the rooster (the nice one) crows ... and then I have to deal with all those FEMALES!
you have to figure, that in an institution that housed women from cradle to grave, that dealing with infants, kids, teenagers, women, and very old women must be something of a challenge. yet research shows that a goodly number of these women lived into their 70s, 80s, and even 90s sometimes. so someone must have been looking out for them and treating them well. (and still is treating them, The Pieta is still in existence, serving as a home for unwed mothers these days).
its all wrapped up and entitled The Housekeeper's Aubade.
having looked up "aubade" -- my new word -- it is a morning poem, but not so much with the lovers. (alas).
last night's rehearsal was super exhausting, but got lots of blocking done. hopefully between my notes, and the cast's ... we remember some of what we did. it's been a long time since I had to deal with 12 people's blocking all at the same time.
and the section we worked out where I have to go and take the dead baby from the little girl ... so good, drama wise. I WANT A SNUFFLING AUDIENCE. I love that, although it feels almost perverse to say so.
and while it will change still, we finally have a dramatic structure to the poems, and a semi-finalized script. the poor actors have been flying blind ... or maybe partially sighted up to this point, as have we to a certain extent. ideally we would have had twice as many rehearsals and then we wouldn't be pushing pushing pushing every rehearsal, but its going to be good in the end.
onward!!!
