Reason number 5 kajillion to like/love the new library job: it's Open House, Day 1 and I don't have to spend NINE HOURS in the busiest part of the library talking to thousands of students -- and in years past watching the DDR Club perform for 8 of those 9 (or 16 of those 18 depending) hours.

With the new job, I helped decorate a bit yesterday, made sure things we set this morning, made a coffee run for the first person up, and then came back to my office until my 12-1 shift. And I'll do an hour tomorrow afternoon. TWO is so much less than EIGHTEEN :)

Could have come up with more of a HI, Welcome! spiel, but mostly the kids just want their forms stamped that they stopped by. Oh, and the person that came up with BINGO daubers as a stamping device, genius. In the early years we had paper punches in fun shapes -- that led to mess and carpal tunnel incidents. Then we tried rubber stamps and ink pads. But BINGO daubers, while only leaving a boring circle on the pages are an all in one device :) I approve (not that anyone asked me).

It's raining buckets here today ... roads flooded ... disaster declared ... campuses closing etc... so I give the kids who went all the libraries here on campus (there are 5 branches besides the main library) extra credit!

Fave kid was the cornfed fresh-faced boy who said to me, in tones of awe, "This is the biggest place I've ever been to in my life."

Frankly, with all the construction, I'm surprised anyone is finding their way around. There were about seven billion DETOUR signs leading kids through the stacks. We ought to give them a pack lunch before sending them in there just in case they can't find their way out!!! LOL

I'm totes digging out my leggings and wearing my wellies tomorrow if the rain is still raining down. all the cool kids had them ;)
