it's Friday night and...
Aug. 26th, 2011 05:30 pmThere are 14 minutes left to this work day as I start typing this.
Then I get to go home and do all the things -- dishes and hardly any clean clothes are to be had, and there's a family picnic tomorrow which I'm kind of surprised my Mom wants to go to (they're her cousins) as she got stroppy last year and didn't go. But whatever. Now I have to make food, and produce clean clothes to wear.
Also, we do this stupid gift exchange thing where people bring a bunch of wrapped presents, then each adult gets three numbers (kids just get stuff). When your number is called you get to pick a gift from the table ... until the point when there are no more gifts on the table, at which point you move on to stealing them from other people. Everything's fair game unless a person only has one gift. Sometimes its fun. Sometimes its painful. But it also means coming up with handful of gifts, and wrapping them in interesting ways so that they're are appealing and look worth stealing. Always interesting to see what gift turns into the must-have gift. And its actually the most fun when there's people maneuvering for the "best" gift. Which always turns out to be like a tub of pretzels or a can of car wax or something. LOL
I can't say I feel any great connection to them as family, but I just stand around gazing at people who's gene pool I share. Given the weather I doubt the D.C. gay cousins will be attending. I like them. They're fun to talk to. :) Or maybe they'll come to get away from the storm? Hard to say.
home. shopping. food. laundry. giftwrapping.
it's going to be a busy Friday night!
