I've been thinking and thinking about how to sum up Frankenstein. Stunning, if I have to do it in one word.

Random thoughts ...

Seeing it filmed did give me a bit of a feeling of being removed from the visceral-ness of it. It never really wholly grabbed me as a result, but ...

That might be partially the fault of the popcorn crunching, Skittles dribbling folks I was seeing it with!

And I did giggle when the little Skittles girl piped up about halfway through when the Creature calls Frankenstein by his name "But I thought HE [the Creature] was Frankenstein!!" So odd how everyone mixes them up that way.

But I was swept up from the first bell clang (oh I do love shows with bells clanging in them) and never once looked at my watch even though it was two hours without an interval.

With a hook like that first 15 minutes or so where the creature emerges from his womb/egg thing and has to learn to walk ... ZOMG.

From a technical point of view I did smile in that they managed to stuff in rain, snow, and fire effects.

Was also a bit fussed over trying to figure out where Benedict had his mike attached. (I so cannot watch a show w/o fussing over the tech stuff). My guess is that it was either built into the skull cap/wig thing, or maybe in those chest scars/stitches. Doesn't really matter, but I do find myself wondering that kind of thing. :)

Was quite happy to see a very plus size member of the company of about my size and shape.

Would love to see it the other way round, for comparisons sake, but was glad I got to see Benedict as the creature as it's by far the more demanding part, physically and emotionally.

So YAY for getting out and seeing a stellar night of theater. Next up ... Cherry Orchard in June with Zoe Wanamaker!!!!
