While I wait for 10 a.m. when the librarians will be in a meeting and I can skip off downstairs and get coffee... I thought you might enjoy another excerpt from "things you learn when reading things aloud" theater...

We've been chopping away at this script because he says everything at least twice. Like:

"Down on your luck, eh? Money? Money!? My dear I have no money. I am as poor as, as they say, a church rat."

Reading it with your eyes, it's okay ... but reading it aloud? It's just a feedback loop. So it became:

"Down on your luck? But my dear, I have no money. I am as poor as, as they say, a church rat."

You could in fact loose that last sentence as well, but it's funny, so it stayed for us.

Then there's the issue of word choice (see yesterday's complaint also). It's little things. Like we were SO much happier last night when we changed "those pueling Jesus worshipers." to "those pueling Christ worshipers." It's the accent that makes this one.

"Dose pew-ling Gee-zuz vorsheepers" versus "Dose pew-ling Cryst vorsheepers." yeah, dunno if it comes across, but the change makes it easier to say, and "Christ" packs so much more vocal punch that "Jesus." The fewer vowel sounds the better really :)

The dang accent ees stuck een mhy hyead ... but after tonight we can bung this script in a box and hopefully never look at it again. I would like to know more about Helena Blavatsky. She's a pistol! But vee see how eet ghoes! :|

I would move "as they say" to the end of the sentence.

Oh - I thought you were a librarian. You're not?

If you define librarian as someone who works in a library, than I am one.

But in academic U libraries, "Librarians" are tenure track faculty. The rest of us are library support staff.
