Jul. 6th, 2010 11:10 amSo this morning started with some really depressing news. A friend who owns an independent/used bookstore and coffee shop in the middle of downtown University-town has had her lease severed with 30 days notice. She's an all around wonderful person and a pretty big wheel in the local theater scene. I just feel so bad for her. The catering arm of the business, and the cafe's secondary location will not be affected, but the closing of that space is going to leave a very large hole in this college town. It sucks for her personally, and it sucks for the community at large.
Chipped another tooth too.
On the positive side of things, I'm on a 16 day streak over on 750words. I have pledged to write every day in July. If I fail to meet that the site will put me up on 'the wall of shame' until I DO complete a full month of writing ;0) To quote an old Criminal Intent episode "Shame is a very effective method of incentive." And besides, it's expedient as I am working on my Mandr's Big Bang thing. Sort of like my own mini-Nanowrimo. Yesterday I had the challenge of trying to create my serial killer. That's HARD! Wrote around and about what I was trying to accomplish and got maybe a decent paragraph out of it, and the start of a direction for the character's motivations. Watching all those crime shows comes in handy at times like this :)
The Danish friends arrive in town tomorrow, although I don't expect to see them until Thursday, although I don't really know what their thinking is schedule wise. I just know I have a lot of cleaning to do to get my little house even passably ready for visitors. I expect a busy night with the scrub bucket and vacuum cleaner tonight.
It's still hazy, hot, and humid here ... so no change there. I'll just be over there in the corner sweating and scribbling and scrubbing...
