insert kermit flail here

So. My boss shows up in my office this morning. This is notable enough in and of itself, as he normally is MIA in terms of my days and weeks.

And, he says, "I still haven't heard anything further about you going over to the library but..."

Seems they've lost 3 of their 4 people. He had said they could have me 24 hours a week, but then he intimated that they might be pressing him for more than that. (this was all news to me)

Then he repeated how they haven't gotten back to him (this was a common theme) but in case of the worst case, could I cross-train Coworker M to do my job. (Backstory here is that he's been making "we really need to get you backup" noises for about 5 years now. Today he says "I think my time just ran out.")

So, I hadda go next door, and tell my already overworked co-worker -- officially our department's office manager -- that in addition to all the stuff she normally does, and the web site training, now she gets to learn how to do my job.

My job that took me around FIVE years to grasp all the ins and outs of. Its why I've been putting off pushing on the cross-training. What I do involves a lot of complexity and judgment calls.. and how to you teach someone to make those judgment calls?

But anyway, I started putting together the relevant formage, and pulling some reference materials, and tomorrow I get to start in on all this. What I do isn't full on library cataloging -- well, maybe 1% or so of it is -- but its got a lot of moving parts.

The next few weeks are going to be interesting. Officially, the first summer session classes start on MONDAY. We joke about library time, but this is just weird, 'cause everythings in limbo. Which is also NOT weird as our library is not known for its quick decision making. Not when everything had to be vetted by 10 different people and 5 separate committees.

Sure am glad I have those cupcakes from Blue waiting at my parents for me to pick up on the way home ... its going to be a bumpy ride! (you know I just had to end with a movie quote, right?)

send liquor and baked goods!!!!
